Runbangla hosts int’l race marking golden jubilee

Runbangla International has organized a worldwide race event to mark the golden jubilee of independence where about 1300 contestants from 27 countries of six continents will partake.

With the theme “running for everyone”, races were organized in different categories of 10 km, 5 km, 1 km and 500 m distance virtually, said a press release.

The race event started on the morning of 26 March and ended on 29 March at 5 pm.

Under the special category called “Warrior”, a total of 49 specially-abled people took part in the race event. Among them, 30 contestants took part from the Center for the Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed (CRP), Savar. All the other 19 contestants were visually impaired.

CRP members joined the race at CRP Basketball Ground where Kazi Belal was champion and Sourav became runners-up in the male category. Shakila bagged first place and the runners-up was Kamrunnahar Shampa in the women’s category.
On 27 March, children and other members of a school for the visually impaired under the Green Disabled Foundation in Sylhet took part in the event, which was co-hosted by the Sylhet Runners’ Community and Runbangla Race Ambassador Dr Orakatul Jannat.

There was also a 1 km running category for children in the race. Children aged 1 year 9 months to 12 years participated under the category.

Runbangla Managing Director Mehedi Hasan said that Runbangla will make active efforts to take special initiatives to ensure the participation of wheelchair competitors in the mainstream races in the future.

(MTB) has joins hands with RUNBANGLA International as a partner of the Marathon event titled RunBangla International 10k 2021 with a vision to celebrate the 50 years of Independence of Bangladesh. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, MTB Managing Director & CEO, announced the partnership between RUNBANGLA International and MTB at a simple ceremony at MTB Centre, the bank’s Corporate Head Office, Gulshan 1, Dhaka 1212.

Syed Rafiqul Haq, Additional Managing Director & Chief Business Officer, Chowdhury Akhtar Asif, Additional Managing Director & Chief Group Risk Officer and Azam Khan, Head of Communications Department from MTB and Mehedi Hasan, Managing Director and Khandokar Rajib Hossain, Race Director from RUNBANGLA International along with other senior officials from the bank were also present at the announcement ceremony.

First Internationally Sanctioned Running Event in Bangladesh History

Dhaka, Bangladesh – On the edge of Lake Hatirjheel in the early hours of a late fall morning in 2019, a little piece of running history was made. Hugh Jones, world famous British 2 time Olympic  marathoner and past winner of the London marathon, arrived at the invitation of RUNBANGLA International, to officially measure and certify (AIMS-IAAF) the first internationally sanctioned running event in Bangladesh history. CCCL-RUNBANGLA International 10K, scheduled for March 13, 2020 7:00am. Before sunrise over the course of 3 hours Hugh Jones went to work, with road access assistance by local authorities, to meticulously apply the internationally accepted standards for course measurement, in part developed by himself. Hugh Jones is recognized worldwide as one of the foremost experts in this exclusive field having measured hundreds of courses over the years including several Olympic Marathons. Upon successful completion of measurements and data gathering, Hugh returned to his hometown of London to complete the application process for the race. Official certification by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Running (AIMS) and International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) was completed.
